Nigerian edtech startup AltSchool has announced the launch of an initiative that would help Africans gain access to AI education. The initiative called AI for 10M Africans will help people at every stage learn how to use AI.

Speaking at a media conference, AltSchool Africa CEO Adewale Yusuf said that the AI for 10M Africans initiative will make sure that “Africans are not left behind.” He said it is “more than an educational programme; a movement to create opportunities and bridge the knowledge gap.”

The programme will cater to learners at all levels and will start with foundational courses that will help users understand how to use AI and debunk myths about AI.

These foundational courses will be followed up with deeper and more technical courses that will delve into subjects like machine learning, data science, and AI engineering.

Unlike the foundational courses, technical-level courses will be available for a fee. However, AltSchool admitted that the success of the initiative is dependent on the collaboration and partnership of organisations, government bodies, and industry leaders.

“We need to integrate this into our school curriculums because the world is changing every day,” Yusuf said.

He also said that the startup has been fortunate to work with different African countries like Nigeria, Rwanda, and Cape Verde, but more needs to be done to help Africans understand how to take advantage of AI.

Foluso Folorunso, Senior Product Designer at AltSchool, said that the initiative is designed to help Africa become more than just a consumer of AI products.

“The world is changing rapidly; AI is taking over industries, and Africa is nowhere to be found.”

Co-founder issues? You’re not alone

Whether you’re just starting out or already dealing with co-founder challenges, this guide will help you avoid common mistakes, solve conflicts, and build a strong partnership.

To encourage people across the continent to use the product, Folorunso noted that the courses will be taught in multiple languages, including Swahili, French, Portuguese, Arabic, and Hausa.

Meanwhile, AltSchool is also is set to introduce hybrid learning programmes through its new product, “Campus by AltSchool.” Created to improve course completion rates and offer students an immersive learning experience, the physical classes will start with two locations in Lagos.

The programme is slated to launch in Q2 2025, with Lagos and Kigali identified as potential hubs.

While AltSchool launches new initiatives, the startup has also been securing scholarship partnerships with the likes of Binance and Bybit to make them accessible for people who cannot afford them.
