Gurbhej Dhillon, who joined Flutterwave from Goldman Sachs in 2022, has announced his departure from the company. Dhillon, who joined as Chief Technology Officer, made this announcement in a LinkedIn post on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

“After an incredible journey as the Chief Technology Officer at Flutterwave, I am stepping away from the company,” he wrote. “This decision marks the close of an amazing chapter and the beginning of a short but much-needed break as I prepare for the next step in my career.”

Dhillon’s exit marks the latest in a series of high-profile departures, including Oneal Bhambani (CFO) in November 2023 and Bode Abifarin (COO) in March 2024.

At the time of Dhillon’s appointment, Flutterwave highlighted his role in enhancing the company’s architecture and infrastructure, as well as providing leadership for the engineering and product teams.

Under his leadership, Flutterwave achieved significant milestones, including partnerships with major global firms such as Microsoft and Capgemini. The collaboration with Capgemini facilitated the expansion of Flutterwave’s engineering team and provided exposure to global teams, while the partnership with Microsoft strengthened the company’s technological capabilities.

Additionally, Dhillon oversaw the relaunch of the Send App, a product that now enables users in over 34 countries to receive international transfers.

In recent developments, Flutterwave has been actively expanding its footprint and strengthening its position in the African fintech landscape. In March 2025, the company partnered with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to provide micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) nationwide with digital payment solutions, e-commerce tools, financial access, and capacity-building programmes.

It also expanded its footprint in Ghana with the launch of the Send App and a partnership with Affinity Bank to integrate Pay with Bank Transfer.

The company has also signalled a change in focus. After spending much of the last two years talking up a possible initial public offering, Olugbenga Agboola (CEO) noted in a recent interview that the company’s immediate goal is profitability.
