Former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal Launches AI Startup

Parag Agrawal, the former CEO of Twitter, has launched an AI company named Parallel Web Systems Inc. This marks his return to the tech scene following his removal from Twitter (now X) in October 2022 by Elon Musk.

Parallel’s flagship product, the Deep Research API, enables AI agents to autonomously gather, verify, and structure information from the web. Agrawal claims it outperforms human researchers and leading models like GPT-5 on key benchmark tasks. The platform already supports millions of research tasks daily, and clients include public companies and coding agents that use the Deep Research API for document discovery and debugging.

However, Parallel isn’t just about a single API. The Palo Alto–based firm offers a suite of eight specialised research engines, among them, the Ultra8x engine,  which outperforms GPT-5 and even human researchers by more than 10% on select benchmarks. These engines enable a range of tasks, from real-time code retrieval to structured data extraction.

After exiting Twitter, Agrawal devoted himself to AI research. Although several firms offered him leadership roles to help them recover, he declined these and focused on building Parallel from the ground up. He envisions a future in which AI agents, not humans, will dominate internet activity, potentially working on our behalf by running dozens of tasks online.
Agrawal’s transition from social media executive to AI infrastructure pioneer reflects both his resilience and deep conviction in artificial intelligence’s evolving role. Although Parallel is still early in its journey, its clear vision, backed by substantial funding, a high-performing product, and a capable team, positions the venture as a meaningful contender in redefining how AI agents interact with the web. If successful, it may usher in a new era where the internet is shaped more by machine users than human ones.
