VALR Partners with MoonPay to Expand Global Crypto Access Across Countries

VALR, Africa’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trade volume, has announced a strategic partnership with MoonPay, a global crypto payments infrastructure provider. This collaboration aims to significantly improve access to cryptocurrencies for users in over 180 countries.

Through this collaboration, VALR now supports 34 fiat currencies, including the Kenyan Shilling (KES), Nigerian Naira (NGN), Turkish Lira (TRY), Brazilian Real (BRL), and Taiwan Dollar (TWD). Users can buy and sell cryptocurrencies using major payment methods like credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo.

Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Johannesburg, VALR serves over 1.3 million users and 1,300+ corporate clients. Its services include spot and futures trading, staking, lending, OTC services, and API-based trading solutions. The platform operates under regulatory oversight from South Africa’s FSCA, the EU, and Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). Backed by $55 million in funding from firms including Pantera Capital, F-Prime (Fidelity), and Coinbase Ventures, VALR is positioning itself as a global exchange rooted in emerging markets.

VALR’s Co-Founder and CEO, Farzam Ehsani, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating that it will enhance access to crypto on a global scale. He added that the partnership supports VALR’s mission to build a financial system that reflects the oneness of humanity.

Ivan Soto-Wright, CEO of MoonPay, said the collaboration with VALR reflects their shared commitment to making crypto and stablecoins more accessible, particularly across Africa and other underserved regions.

The partnership marks a strategic step in VALR’s international growth trajectory, reinforcing its ambition to compete with global players like Binance and Coinbase. It also addresses key pain points in emerging markets, where limited banking infrastructure can slow crypto adoption.
